“…For there is no distinction: for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,” -Romans 3:22–23
Here, Paul reiterates and summarized in the form of a maxim what he has been arguing thus far. It is necessary for all men—Jew and Gentile alike—to seek by faith the righteousness of God which is in Christ because without exception all are sinners before the throne of God.
Because all have sinned, there is not one single person of any race or tribe who has anything in which he might glory before God.
Like Adam, who hid himself from God in the garden, we are all “confounded and lost” under the burden of the shame of our sin so that none can even bear the presence of God, let alone stand in his presence as one who has merited his favor.
Woe unto all of us! We have fallen exceedingly short of God’s glory! Lord, have mercy!
