“So do not let what you regard as good be spoken of as evil.” -Romans 14:16
The exhortation here is simple. Paul admonishes the strong to not allow what is a blessing to be turned into its opposite i.e., spoken of as evil. It was Christ who has obtained this liberty for us and it was Christ who welcomed both weak and strong.
Since the liberty regarding diets and days obtained for us by Christ is truly a blessing, the stronger ought, therefore, to regard the needs of the weaker and refrain from any unseasonable use of his liberty. To cause a brother to stumble or to create scandal in the community that in turn overshadowed the matter itself would be self-defeating and unwise.
“Scoffers set a city aflame, but the wise turn away wrath.” -Proverbs 29:8
