“for it is written, “As I live, says the Lord, every knee shall bow to me, and every tongue shall confess to God.” So then each of us will give an account of himself to God.” -Romans 14:11–12
Citing Isaiah 45:23, Paul now demonstrates that attitude which ought to possess the hearts of every believer, humility and reverence. As was established in verse 10, he further confirms: we are not lords, but will answer to the Lord. We are not judges but are to be judged. Each of us will bow the knee, give praise to God, confess his grace and glory, and give an account to him of our own choices in life.
That without exception, each and every one of us are to personally stand before God at the judgment seat and give account is without dispute. And meditating on the numerous references and allusions in Scripture to our judgment day ought forever change our disposition toward our brothers and sisters in Christ in matters of indifference.
“For God will bring every deed into judgment, with every secret thing, whether good or evil.” -Ecclesiastes 12:14
“For the Son of Man is going to come with his angels in the glory of his Father, and then he will repay each person according to what he has done.” -Matthew 16:27
“For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each one may receive what is due for what he has done in the body, whether good or evil.” -2 Corinthians 5:10
“knowing that whatever good anyone does, this he will receive back from the Lord, whether he is a bondservant or is free.” -Ephesians 6:8
“Then I saw a great white throne and him who was seated on it. From his presence earth and sky fled away, and no place was found for them. And I saw the dead, great and small, standing before the throne, and books were opened. Then another book was opened, which is the book of life. And the dead were judged by what was written in the books, according to what they had done. And the sea gave up the dead who were in it, Death and Hades gave up the dead who were in them, and they were judged, each one of them, according to what they had done. Then Death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. This is the second death, the lake of fire. And if anyone’s name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire.” -Revelation 20:11–15
