“Who are you to pass judgment on the servant of another? It is before his own master that he stands or falls. And he will be upheld, for the Lord is able to make him stand.” -Romans 14:4
What Paul is saying is that each is responsible to his own master, the Lord Jesus Christ. We all stand or fall before him and not before one another. And Paul assures them, that in a case where one may be in error regarding such matters, it is not a matter of salvation. Both are believers. Both have been redeemed. Both have been welcomed by God. Both answer to the same master and not to each other.
It is also essential to remember, that while we may be persuaded differently in our own minds on secondary issues like dietary laws, the record of debt that stood against us with its legal demands has been canceled. It has been set aside, nailed to the cross (Colossians 2:14). Further, we are reminded that Jesus said of those he has saved, “My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life, and they will never perish, and no one will snatch them out of my hand.” (John 10:27–28).
Those who have been welcomed by God are not in jeopardy of losing their standing with him because they each approach such matters differently. However, to be clear, this is not a matter of relativism in terms of truth. It is a matter of personal understanding regarding the sense of the Scriptures and how to apply them accurately. In this matter, even the strongest in their faith still have growing to do.
